After Service Refreshments

Planning the funeral of a loved one is often an emotional rollercoaster as you reflect on the life of your loved one. Usually these celebrations are called a "wake" and are often quite sombre, muted occasions. Here at Lysaght, we prefer to call such occasions a celebration of life as you celebrate your loved ones achievements, the life they led and as you share fond memories with others, although this doesn't make their passing any easier, we believe that celebrations such as these can be comforting for those that are left behind.

From experience, we share some of our suggestions here with you.

Food

Food can often be the last thing on people's mind on such a difficult day. When you're feeling low and fragile, what people crave most is comfort food and endless cups of tea. On a cold winters day, hearty food will keep everyone’s spirits up, and in warmer months, a great spread of sandwiches, quiches and cream cakes will provide much needed fuel. Finger food is perfect, and a buffet gives people the opportunity to eat without the formality of having to sit at a table.

Refreshments

We have a fully licensed bar, perfect for a stiff drink can take the edge off a deeply distressing occasion. If you’re planning on making a speech, hold off on that brandy until after you have spoken. Our ballroom features a private bar inside the room, offering you and your guests the opportunity to raise a toast to loved ones present and absent and to happier times is a perfect way to bring everyone together, perhaps the chance for someone to say a few words or an be the perfect way to start or end a celebration depending on your preference

Quiet Spaces

It’s really important that at a time such as this for you and your loved ones to have privacy and space. When booking the Lysaght Institute for your after service celebration of life, you will have exclusive use of our ballroom or Lysaght Suite for the duration of your celebration. The ballroom also has a large balcony with seating overlooking our courtyard garden area should anyone need a couple of moments peace or simply to get some fresh air

Music

Music plays such an important part in so many peoples lives, what better way to celebrate than with music. If your loved one played in a band or liked a particular style of music, why not book them to celebrate with you. The Lysaght Institute can accommodate most types of band or musical groups, just ask our experienced events team. If you didn’t want live music, you could perhaps compile a playlist of songs that have special meaning to, perhaps there was a song that your granddad used to sing when you were younger, or maybe your mum had a favourite song she would play on a Friday night. Our ballroom has a Bluetooth sound system that you can connect to with most digital devices.
