Friends of Lysaght
A fantastic community group free to join that organises Art & Craft sessions through Half Term and the Summer period. We also provide other events throughout the year for the community and support Lysaght Institute.
The community group always promote and support the activities and facilities of the Lysaght Institute for the benefit of Newport residents and beyond, where and when appropriate.

In 2018 Friends of Lysaght begun a vegetable planting area to be sustainable and help teach the younger community how to grow seasonal vegetable and fruits.
Community members worked together to create a community garden, working with Buglife, The Bumblebee Conservation Trust and The Living Levels land partnership to change the management of the site to benefit pollinating insects
A very rare orchid, The Bee Orchid was found in the grounds near the vegetable planting area and a wild meadow was created with relaxed mowing to ensure that the orchid could thrive. The meadow is filled with flowering plants such as clovers, trefoils, selfheal, daisies, dandelions to entice the rare Shrill Carder Bee.
The Bee Orchid looks like a Bee to attract pollinators.
With the Bee Orchid in the meadow, the group hope to attract the Shrill carder bee from the living levels area.
A solitary Bee home was created and Friends of Lysaght were awarded the Green Flag Award 2019 and in 2021.
