Masks

23rd October 2020

Masks have now become mandatory in the UK since September for indoor public places and this includes wedding venues. Amy has looked at the best masks for your big day and even ways to incorporate them into your wedding.

Couples across the country getting married have faced so many challenges this year. The pandemic is still very real and while couples are pulling out all the stops to get married in line with the Government guidelines, their special day is now whittled down guest lists, live music restrictions, a lack of evening ceremony and now wearing a mask indoors. Masks became mandatory in the UK for indoor public places and this includes wedding venues so we have looked at all the ways you can rock your face mask for the day.

Leaving the house these days involves checking you have keys, money, phone and now a mask. Brides and grooms are expected to wear the coverings for the ceremony until the vows are taken. Yes, I know you didn’t expect to wear a mask when you picked out your wedding suits and dresses but this is the new reality and after all, love will always win, even if a mask tries to get in the way.

It's likely your wedding has gone from a large group of people to a maximum of 30 and even when you chose to go ahead during a pandemic, you did not expect to be walking down the aisle looking out at a sea of guests sporting face coverings. Well… this is the perfect time to talk about embracing the pandemic and turning the tides on the rule. I have seen centre pieces including bottles of hand sanitiser, sanitising stations and funky signage couples are using. How about co-ordinating your whole wedding party? Etsy seller Jellyfrogclothing has the prefect personalised wedding party face masks for your guests, with your names and wedding date and this will be one favour that wont get left behind and a memory for years to come.

Now its time to look at bridal options on face coverings and believe it or not… there are more than just a few. I have spotted brides with matching face masks and dress, brides wearing the same colour as the bridesmaids and even personalised masks. Etsy sellers are quick off the mark with their creations too. Using the best quality materials and the prettiest of lace, you will have no problem trying to find one to fit in with your wedding. Etsy seller, Legendbridaldesigns is currently selling this blush and ivory mask and I am sure you will be inspired by some of the options as I was.

If you are not feeling the face mask vibe, that’s okay. I know your vision of walking down the aisle in your wedding dress didn’t really account for one couple of weeks ago. Now, let’s explore some other options. I have seen hairdressers and beauticians customising face shields with gems and what better way to show off your smile as well as avoiding the smudge of lipstick and feeling so unusual walking down that aisle. Did you know can even get flower crown shields? Redhotsburlyq has one for sale on Etsy. This one caught my eye but could easily be replicated with you own colour scheme.

If none of these take your fancy, you could also look at the huge selection of Bride and Groom matching masks. You can have some personalised with your new name if you are taking your partners name or double barrelling or a simple Mr & Mrs mask each. For the comedians amongst you we have even found some funny ones. This Friends inspired mask is listed on Etsy

If your Groom is not feeling the comedy masks for your wedding day, or is looking to get something a bit more traditional, you could always match with the pocket square and tie. There are so many options available that you can get matches easily but if you wanted that luxurious feel and to truly match you can have some custom made for your groom and groomsmen. SadeNewYork has already listed this stylish polka dot set on Etsy.

It's understandable, you didn’t choose your wedding dress or suit thinking you would have to accessorise with a mask on your wedding day. At certain parts of the day you will have to wear one but remember you are getting married during a pandemic and that is remarkable. Outside spaces will be your saving grace for the day and make sure you show off your beautiful smiles. Don’t forget about wearing lip balm to keep your lips soft and chap free while you have your mask on and I would avoid lipstick just in case it smudges or goes on your teeth. You can pop a bit of lippy on with a compact mirror when you are outside or sat down for your meal. You will have an amazing day, even in a mask.
